CURRICULUM

(EACH CLASS MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF SIX STUDENTS)

 

FIRST STEPS:   FOCUSES ON THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF MOVEMENT AND DANCE.  LOCOMOTOR SKILLS, MUSICAL RHYTHM, BEAT AND TIME,  OPPOSITES AND DIRECTIONS AND ELEMENTARY POSITIONS OF BALLET.

BALLET:    THE FUNDAMENTALS OF BARRE WORK AND CENTERWORK ARE STUDIED.  RUSSIAN CLASSICAL TRAINING HAS STRONG EMPHASIS IN ALL CLASSES.  PROGRESSIONS ACROSS THE FLOOR ARE PRACTICED.

JAZZ:    THIS CLASS INVOLVES PILATES STRETCHING AND CONTINUING WITH UPBEAT COMBINATIONS IN CENTER AND ACROSS THE FLOOR.   INTERMEDIATE  JUMPS AND TURNS AS WELL AS FLOOR WORK IS TAUGHT.

TAP:  TEACHES EACH STUDENT THE IMPORTANCE OF SOUND AND RHYTHM WHILE STUDYING BASIC AND ADVANCED MOVEMENTS  THEN FORMING THEM INTO COMBINATIONS.

MODERN: GRAHM, LIMON AND HORTON TECHNIQUES ARE STUDIED.   CLASSES WORK ON IMPROVISATION AS WELL AS PARTNER WORK. SPACE, SHAPE, TIME AND FORM AS WELL AS ACTION VS. REACTION  IS  STUDIED.

HIP HOP: THIS CLASS COMBINES JAZZ MOVES WITH THE LATEST STYLES   SEEN IN VIDEOS AND TV.   EACH CLASS GIVES THE STUDENT A CHANCE TO STEP AWAY FROM TECHNIQUE AND LET LOOSE.

POINTE:     FOR THE SERIOUS STUDENT WITH STRONG BALLET TECHNIQUE.   CLASSES WORK OFF OF WHAT IS TAUGHT IN BALLET CLASSES AND TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL.   BEGINNER AND  ADVANCED CLASSES OFFERED.

LYRICAL:     FOCUSES ON EMPHASIZING EMOTION THROUGH DANCE, LYRICAL COMES FROM JAZZ TECHNIQUE AS WELL AS BALLET AND/OR   MODERN TO SUIT THE STUDENTS.

ADULT CLASSES:   A BALLET BARRE AS WELL AS STRETCHING IS  INCORPORATED INTO CLASS,  THEN CONTINUE WITH JAZZ PROGRESSIONS ACROSS  THE FLOOR.   CLASS IS FINISHED WITH A ½ HOUR TAP CLASS.

CLASS OPTIONS

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT STUDENTS TAKE A TECHNIQUE CLASS IN BALLET, JAZZ AND TAP IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE BEST EDUCATION, BECOME VERSATILE AND SEE WHAT THEY ENJOY MOST.   WE  DO OFFER ADDITIONAL CLASSES IF STUDENTS PREFER A CERTAIN GENRE OR WISH TO TAKE MORE THAN THEIR SCHEDULED CLASSES. BALLET/JAZZOPTION, BALLET/LYRICAL OPTION, HIP HOP ONLY AND MODERN ONLY CLASSES.
